| Introduction
Our Scholarship Brochure provides an
overview of the CFUW-Oakville scholarship program.
Awards
Scholarships are available to Oakville women
graduating from publicly-funded schools planning full-time studies at
post-secondary institutes. There are four categories of
awards: University Entrance,
Community Service,
Performing Arts, and
Mature Student.
Mildred G. Allworth was a teacher in Toronto who moved to Oakville on
her retirement. She was an active CFUW member and made a
bequest to the Club specifically for scholarships.
Jean Malcolm
Smith was a past president of the club whose volunteer work was
exemplary. Her award recognizes a student who provides
outstanding community service.
At present, students compete for the awards from the following
institutions: Oakville-Trafalgar High School, Iroquois Ridge High
School, White Oaks Secondary School, Thomas A. Blakelock High School,
St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Ignatius of Loyola, Holy Trinity Catholic
School, Abbey Park, Ecole Secondaire Jeunes sans Frontieres and
Etobicoke School for the Arts - Oakville Residents, Adult Learning
Centres (Oakville) and Sheridan College.
The
Scholarship Fund
The Scholarship Fund was established in
September 1988 as a separate entity with its own Constitution. Its
purpose is to manage the capital which provides funding for the club's
awards. The Fund is audited annually following its year end on May
31.
As stated in the Constitution, the object of the Scholarship Committee
[the Fund] shall be to advance and promote the education of women
through the provision of scholarships. All monies shall be
used solely for promoting its object. There are five [5]
trustees of the fund, their tasks being
1. To record all donations and income, invest the monies and
disburse when needed.
2. To promote the fund and participate and initiate fund
raising activities.
The Scholarship Fund is a registered charity. Tax receipts are
issued for donations, including the portion of each member's annual
fees that are designated for the Scholarship Fund.
Donations to the Fund are welcome and should be made payable to the
"University Women's Club of Oakville Scholarship Fund".
Awards for
Graduate Studies
